ROH Projects - THIRDSPACE : transit#3 Exhibition Invitation

In collaboration with Selasar Sunaryo Art Space, ROH Projects is proud to present THIRDSPACE: transit #3, an exhibition of four artists who took part in the former's transit #3 residency programme in April – June 2015.

"A city is no longer a city if devoid of people, people who act in and react to the city, people who tell and are told stories about their city. Spaces and places frame life; furthermore, the ways we use these spaces and places are framed by the ways we talk about them: technically, aesthetically, morally, politically, economically, and etcetera.
In this show, Iabadiou Piko, Fika Ria Santika, Kara Andarini and Aliansyah Caniago – deal each in their own way with the different layers of the body-space relationship: from the personal to the political and back."
-Roy Voragen.

The exhibition will be opened with an Artist Talk at 3pm next Saturday, 25 June 2016 with the artists, Roy Voragen and Chabib Duta Hapsoro, and will last until 16 July 2016.

As there are limited spaces for the Artist Talk, please kindly RSVP to Danti (danti@rohprojects.net). We look forward to your visit!

> Bantul Art Summit offers an alternative to the formalized art culture permeating the region, while inviting critical discourse within a respected establishment, and providing a more organic approach to viewing and appreciating art. Hailing from various cities and countries around the greater Asia Pacific region, these artists share common ground in creating work "on their own terms" – independent of aesthetic, social and political trends. This year's inaugural exhibition emulates the philosophies of its artists: emphasizing process-driven work and asserting individuality outside of conventional institutions.

Invitation - Einladung - Undangan

Dear Friends and Artlovers,

I would like to invite you to my current and upcoming shows in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
It would be great to see you there!
Warmest regards,
Franziska

Untitled
2016, mixed media, 100 x 70 x 30 cm

The work deals with the release of fixed mindsets.

Nature is independent
2016, mixed media, 180 x 120 x 60 cm

Nature is independent
The work is a hommage to nature and its self determining essence. This essence becomes
the spirit of struggling for independence in thought and mind.
It is the achievement of the former generation to be independent and unified as a nation, but
it is todays demand to keep an independent reflected mind accross borders. Ethical values
and the effort to think for yourself, not jumping on mainstream thinking patterns, can keep
humans independent, but unified - respecting eachothers mind.

The pillow forms on the left and on the right stand for wings - a symbol of freedom.
The heavy beton substructure for the quilted wall carpet strengthens the appearance as a monument.
Sewing wall carpets is an ancient technique to manifest important scenes of the court or
sacred writings in coloured threads. Here the technique is adapted to enhance the status of the general people's right to think.

Go international.

Tidak dengan lainnya (Canto IV baris 38 - 39) Raymond Roussel - New Impressions of Africa (1932)

A parrot on it's perch seemingly talking to a passer-by. No other people. (Canto IV lines 38 - 39) Raymond Roussel - New Impressions of Africa (1932)

Ear in the afternoon is a exhibition for MES 56 by Australian artist Tim Woodward. Featuring a new film, as well as sculpture and text, Ear in the afternoon sees Woodward continue exploring the potential of the human voice, focusing on ways of staging or hosting voice outside of the human body. While in Yogyakarta, Woodward has researched mimicking bird breeds endemic to Indonesia, meeting with local bird owners and trainers. Initially inspired by a captioned illustration in Raymond Roussel's surrealist poem, New Impressions of Africa (1932), Woodward has focused on the word "seemingly" in Roussel's text, choosing to explore the possibility of a talking bird, rather than documenting its limited actuality.
