Xalisco, a place….
“A man arrives in a town somewhere in Mexico looking for his father. From that moment on, a journey between realities of the living and the death begins”. A storytelling tribute to great master writers of Latin America. Xalisco, a place… is a nonlinear performance/ installation, that brings together music, movement, drama and visual art.

"Seorang laki-laki sampai di sebuah kota di Meksiko dalam perjalanan mencari ayahnya. Berawal dari itulah cerita antara alam kehidupan dan kematian dimulai”. Sebuah cerita yang ditujukan untuk mengenang para penulis legendaris Amerika Latin. Xalisco, suatu tempat ... adalah pertunjukan instalasi nonlinier, yang menyatukan musik, gerakan, drama dan seni visual.

The experiences of Latin America through the ages, such as postcolonial situations, seem to echo in Indonesia. It allows them to look at themselves through the reflective experiences; battles, cultures, thoughts and literature, and find similarities that can give meaning to their own challenges. Because in the psyche of Indonesians as in that of Latin Americans, there still exists remnants of insecurity in relation to a dark and painful past, the past of having been conquered. Different paths, but with a common denominator.
In reference to Xalisco, the texts that I have selected for the performance, from great Latin American writers, are fragments of stories that emphasize those contexts. Seemingly random, it is actually a selection that reflects the collective memory, the search for identity in one’s roots and in the character of the region; In the scene of the crime, the erotic dream, the death that awaits around the corner, the memories that devour the present, confessions ... A place called Xalisco, the Xalisco’s of Latin America. Human stories, which in the end, seek peace and a sense of beauty. In the end, the ever recurring desire for freedom.
What moves me to present this project is not necessarily to tell a story, but to show those impressions that remain in the memory, where events and conversations arise without apparent relation. Sometimes perverse, fragmented and meaningless as in dreams. Linear structure does not concern me. Is there a beginning or an end? Where is Xalisco? Who is the man, and who is the woman? It is no longer important.
Far from realism. The aesthetic belongs to the realm of timelessness of the memory and the dreams. The character of Xalico is a magical world where scenes happen without necessary connection. But there is a story and an ending.
These stories are our stories, these stories are our history. We share these with you, Xalisco, a place.
