Date and Time:
Thu. 6 August 2015, 10:00 - 12:00 Hrs
Please join us for Gilian Schrofe's lecture ongood design. Good design is about using interiors to influence people's subconscious behaviour. A shop owner wants to guide its customers through the store, tempting them into buying something. The interior of a bar can make customers stay longer and order more food and drinks. A pharmacy can be a welcoming and comforting place to its patients in need of care. It is all about influencing the senses and about playing with people's sub consciousness.
Experiencing an interior goes directly to the brain, like other senses such as smell and taste.
Schrofer, co-founder of Concern, works in a multidisciplinary manner. Concern is more of a network than a traditional design bureau. For each project they work on, out of a steady network of designers, architects, graphic and visual designers and even other disciplines, they create the best possible team for the specifics of the project. This also underscores Gilian Schrofers belief to not be a signature designer, but to dig deep into the DNA of a client and to create a design that best fits that DNA.
That's why he focuses on areas that make a difference: healthcare, education, public spaces, exhibitions and museums. He is also an educator who wants to teach—and learn from—younger people.
The lecture is held in the framework of our new exhibition Supermodels.
SUPERMODELS is an initiative from Concern, presenting a compilation of the Dutch design tradition through the centuries – utilising 3D printed scale models. Iconic works from modern day product and interior designers will be shown alongside their predecessors like Rietveld and Berlage.
The Dutch Design House, part of the exhibition, represents the plans for a workspace/ design platform/ creative centre for (Dutch) designers and small business owners outisde of the Netherlands, consisting of (flexible) work spaces, meeting rooms, hospitality and hotel rooms designed by Dutch designers.
3D WORKNET is sponsor of SUPERMODELS and responsible for all of the 3D printwork for the exhibition. Not only doesthe exhibition contain historical information and value, but also innovation by combining modern 3D print techniques with original design. Above all, and because of these modern techniques, SUPERMODELS is ,because of these modern techniques, self-evolving: New designs can be added to the exhibition during each 'perfomance'.
