Boemboe is a non-profit organization established by Lulu Ratna, Amin Shabana and Ray Nayoan in 2003. Boemboe focuses on promoting and distributing short films. Run on the model of a small organization by only 3 people, Boemboe makes an effort to work effectively to function as a meeting point for filmmakers, film lovers, owners of movie theaters and screening rooms, film researchers, and people with knowledge and data on the film sector.
Since 2004, Boemboe has routinely run Boemboe Forum in Jakarta to link short filmmakers from throughout Indonesia. In 2006, Boemboe initiated the biennale: 3 Cities Short Film Festival. Boemboe also actively distributes compilations of short films on DVDs to encourage the development of short films in Indonesia. Their first DVD, with a duration of 49 minutes, was entitled Indonesia Kecil.
In 2008, Boemboe held the Indonesia-USA Youth Exchange Project in Appalshop, Kentucky, the United States; as well as Boemboe Forum 2008 "Reflecting on 5 Years of Boemboe" at Kineforum and Cipta 3 Gallery at the Taman Ismail Marzuki (TIM) Art Center in Jakarta.
This Sunday, October 23, is the second time Boemboe hosts the forum in Kinosaurus. There will be 4 short films screened, followed by a discussion with the filmmakers.
