Dear Amir, ROH Projects is pleased to announce Syagini Ratna Wulan's Solo Exhibition "Susurrus" curated by Agung Hujatnikajennong. Susurrus (whirs/soughs/rustles/whispers) is a metaphor for indistinct, vague, faint voices: one we recognise in the wind as it blows softly through the leaves, or in the babbling brook as it runs over the stones and gravel beneath its surface. Syagini Ratna Wulan's works in this exhibition challenge the viewers to observe, explore and examine from up-close. Various objects, images and texts in this exhibition appear obscured, disguised under the colours, lights and walls of the gallery, interlaced with entities we often disregard, lose or neglect. This is an invitation to fathom not only what is implied, but also the statements on the means of conveying a message. Syagini Ratna Wulan (born in Bandung, 1979) is an artist who works on a variety of two as well as three-dimensional works, installation and interactive medium, with a focus on issues of perception, speculation, enigma, and fantasy. Since 1999, Syagini has been involved in numerous group exhibitions such as ARTJOG 11: Enlightenment in Yogyakarta, Indonesia (2018); Not a Dead End, Jogja Biennale Equator #2, Yogyakarta (2013); Coming Home, at Hara Museum, Japan (2012); as well as solo exhibitions, among others ahead-of-itself-already-being-in at FOST Gallery, Singapore (2017), and Spectral Fiction at ROH Projects, Jakarta (2016). She presented a solo project titled BIBLIOTEA at the 2011 edition of ArtHK, Hong Kong. That same year, she was also invited for a residency at Art Initiative Tokyo (AIT) in Tokyo, Japan.
